It was introduced as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2020, making education flexible, accessible, and easier to manage and showcase.

The goal of launching this identity card for students was to relieve their stress about their documents and records. Currently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) manages this ID.

How To Create an ABC ID Card: 3 Best Methods

You can create an ABC ID online with these three best methods:

1. Creating an ABC ID Using DigiLocker

The first method to register for the ABC ID is by using DigiLocker.

• Head over to digilocker.gov.in.
• For existing users: If you already have an account on this website, simply click “Sign in,” which will take you to the DigiLocker login form. Log in with your mobile number, Aadhaar card number, or username and password there. You’ll be sent an OTP for verification purposes. Enter that.
• For new users: If you’re a completely new user, click “Sign Up” and create the account using the same basic info, like contact number, setting the password, email, etc.
• After logging into the website, click the “Search Document” tab.
• In the search bar, type “Academic Bank of Credits (ABC Card).” You’ll get it right away if you don’t, look under the “Education” category, where it’ll also be listed.
• When you get the option, click it, and you’ll be taken to the ID form. Fill it up:
• Fill the ABC IDform by putting in these details:
  • Name (must match your Aadhaar)
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Admission Year
  • Identity Type (e.g., Aadhaar)
  • Identity Value (your Aadhaar number)
  • Institution Name (if known)
• After filling in all the details, recheck them to ensure you’re not doing anything wrong. Then, check the consent box and click “Get Document”.
• Your ID will appear in front of you in the “Issued Documents” tab.

2. Creating an ABC Card Using ABC Portal

The second method is creating the ABC card ID using the abc.gov.in portal. Remember, you can’t directly create the ID on this portal. You’ll need to have a DigiLocker account to create an ID on it. For that reason, head over to the DigiLocker website first, create your account, and then go ahead with these steps:

• Go to the abc.gov.in website and then click “My Account”> “Student Login.”
• There, put in the DigiLocker username and password, and log in.
• A consent message will pop up on your screen telling you about the data the ABC portal will access. Read it carefully if you want to, and then hit “Allow.”
• You’ll now be logged into the account. Then, click the “Generate ABC ID” button.
• The ID will be generated for you. Once it’s generated, you can download the ABC ID in PDF format.

3. Creating ABC ID Using UMANG Portal

UMANG, one of India’s most used service hubs, also lets you create an ABC Card. Just follow these easy steps:

• Go to https://umang.gov.in or download its app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
• Sign up or log in using your mobile number and other basic details.
• Once in the portal, find and click the “Academic Bank of Credits” section.
• Fill in these details:
  • Institution Name
  • Year of Admission
• Submit the filled details by clicking “Submit” or any available button.
• The ID will be generated for you.
• You can download the ABC ID PDF directly from the UMANG platform.

How To Update The Academic Bank Of Credits Card?

If you want to update the ABD ID card info for any reason, then follow these steps to do that:

• Log in to your DigiLocker account.
• Go to the ‘Issued Documents’ section.
• Click on ‘Refresh Aadhaar Card Details’.
• Then, click ‘Refresh ABC ID Card’ in the same section.
• If details don’t update, wait 2–3 days and try refreshing again.
